If you are overweight even slightly above 10% of average weight then I recommend you start physical exercise now itself. Weight Loss is a very difficult task and to complete it properly you will have to keep the following things in mind:-

1st thing to do when to start out to lose weight is make your goals clear. This means you have to think how much you want to lose, what part of the body needs more attention etc. Once you are done with this and your planning you have already achieved half of what you plan. The other half consists of following the plan and goal. Keeping a food diary is very important while trying to lose weight. Note down food items you should have/you shouldn’t have, give to a lifelong commitment because it takes time to have permanent results. You also try changing your lifestyle to increase the progress rate. Talk to people who will support you and give you strength, at all means avoid eating fast food (I’m not saying STOP eating it, but try to it as rarely as possible). Avoid dieting also because with dieting you tend to become weaker and weaker.

One of the biggest reasons most people don’t succeed in losing weight is that most just keeping thinking and do nothing about it. If you want to get up and make a move, in the beginning it might be very difficult but after some time it will become a habit and you will be living a healthy life without much difficulties.

You will meet hindrances from time to time. Do not lose hope and never give up! As long as you committed yourself and stuck with your plan, you will succeed.
